Empowering Young Professionals to Drive Climate Action
The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative
Climate change is threatening livelihoods and reinforcing poverty in vulnerable developing countries and poor communities, despite their minimal contributions to global emissions.
In the face of environmental change and a growing number of weather extremes, vulnerable people and countries need support in employing effective strategies to manage risks and unexpected shocks, and build resilience to climate impacts.
Effective Climate & Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI)
The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) is determined to reduce the protection gap by developing effective CDRFI solutions, and advocating for new ways of applying risk-transfer mechanisms to better shield vulnerable communities from climate change impacts.
To provide this cutting-edge professional expertise, MCII works closely with civil society actors, private sector insurers, insurance associations, governments, regulators, scholars and practitioners of risk management and adaptation.

Fostering the Next Generation of CDRFI Actors
Currently, within CDRFI decision-making processes, younger representation is urgently needed. We need more opportunities for capacity-building-networks tailored towards young insurance and climate risk professionals from both the Global South and North. Until now, there weren’t any platforms directly facilitating interactions among young professionals globally.
This is where we step in.
We want to connect young professionals in the Global South and North to foster knowledge and experience sharing, initiating closer collaboration and exchange to support wider personal and professional growth.

In order to achieve this, we have initiated and are hosting the first global network for aspiring young leaders working in the various fields of Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance.

We invite you to be part of this groundbreaking network of fellow young professionals that want to advance the agenda of CDRFI, where you can become a changemaker within the insurance industry, as well as key national and international processes.

Our new programme, CLIMER, combines 'CLIMBER', representing your career progression, with 'ME', highlighting the personal focus of the programme. We aim to empower you to shape your journey in a way that maximizes your individual growth and contribution to the broader CDRFI sphere.

This new programme provides you with a unique opportunity to benefit from capacity building and training, learn from your peers, hear from world-leading experts, engage with the wider MCII Membership, help shape the network and its future, and establish new relationships with industry partners and practitioners.
